A Family Affair

My favorite people in the entire world came all the way to Copenhagen to visit me.  It was pretty surreal having my family in this foreign place.  It actually never really hit me that they were there, until they left.  I was not homesick at all until I got to spend the entire weekend with my mother, sister, and grandmother and then watch them leave.  I had no idea how much I had missed familiarity.   I have been enjoying my experience so much and I was so happy to get a chance to show them my new temporary home and little piece of happiness. They were able to see Copenhagen from a local’s view and I was able to eat at restaurants I would of never been able to afford otherwise.  It was a win-win situation for everyone!

It was also pretty awesome for my host family to meet my actual family. My mother and my host mother got along great (that was the biggest test) and my little sister had the time of her life.  We went to a Halloween party at my host family’s close family friend’s home.  They had two daughters around my sister’s age and they clicked immediately. It was wonderful that my sister was able to make two Danish friends that not only taught her a little Danish, but planted the idea of maybe studying in Denmark when the opportunity presents itself.  My grandmother also got much needed rest and relaxation that she never gets at home.  It was a weekend that I will never forget and one I am eternally grateful for.  I did not take their trip for granted, because it was a blessing that they were able to come.  A lot of students in my program receive visits from their parents, but many do not.  I was able to have a girl’s weekend, in Europe, with my favorite girls.  I don’t think it gets much better than that!
